1920’s New York and a peculiar wizard by the name of Newt Scamander has just arrived to meet with an important official at the Magical Congress of the USA, carrying with him a suitcase filled with magical creatures.
When the beasts escape and begin to run riot on an unsuspecting world, the already tense relations between magical people and muggles is strained further.
Not helped by the fact that wizards and witches are already threatened by an extremist group who are committed to ridding the world of magical people, Newt must use every trick up his sleeve to right his wrongdoing.
With a little help from two witches, sisters Tina (Katherine Waterston) and Queenie Goldstein (Alison Sudol), and a muggle named Jacob (Dan Fogler), Newt sets out to recapture the beasts and return them to their natural habitats.
The first instalment of a planned trilogy, this highly-anticipated prequel to Harry Potter and marks J.K. Rowling’s debut as a screenwriter.
Having thrilled audiences and critics with his performances in The Theory of Everything (2014) and The Danish Girl (2015), Academy award winner Eddie Redmayne leads the cast as Newt Scamander.
Stellar support comes from Colin Farrell (The Lobster) and Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice).
The picture is directed by David Yates, who was responsible for the last four films in the Harry Potter franchise.
