Two decades after we first met hopeless addict Renton (Ewan McGregor) and his unsavoury friends, the world is a very different place but some things never change. After years in the wilderness, trying to escape his sketchy past, Renton returns home and reunites with his old acquaintances who have all defied the odds and managed to stay alive. Just.
He even manages to hunt down old-flame Diane (Kelly Macdonald), who is understandably sceptical about his claims to be a new man, free from the steely grip of heroin addiction.
But, is going backwards to move forwards a wise move or is it all one big, ugly mistake?
Loosely based on Irvine Welsh’s 2002 novel Porno, T2 promises to be a worthy follow-up to one of the most iconic movies of the 1990s that launched several careers.
Danny Boyle returns to the director’s chair, after the first film set him on the path to make pictures as diverse as The Beach (2000), 28 Days Later… (2002), Slumdog Millionaire (2008) and Steve Jobs (2015).
Ewan McGregor (Beauty and the Beast), Jonny Lee Miller (Dark Shadows), Robert Carlyle (28 Weeks Later), Kelly McDonald (No Country for Old Men) and the rest of the original cast all reprise their roles in what is sure to be a twisted, rollercoaster ride of jet-black comedy.
