The Fencer - Estonia 2015
This is a touching 1950s-set drama about love and a man who finds meaning in his life through the children who need him. Endel Nelis is a young man, and champion fencer, who leaves Leningrad to escape the secret police. Arriving in Haapsalu, a small coastal town in Estonia, he finds work as a teacher and founds a sports club for his students, teaching them his great passion - fencing. Before long, he’s developed a deep affection for his charges, mostly war orphans, and when several children show promise and skill, Endel must decide whether to risk taking them to Leningrad for a competition.
