Denzel Washington plays a socially awkward defence lawyer who finally gets tired of being the underdog and decides to transform his life, and himself.
Some say he’s blunt. Others would call it ‘rude’. Either way, Roman J Israel (Denzel Washington) isn’t afraid to tell it like it is.
Once a passionate political activist who rallied in the streets for equality and justice, he’s now a defence lawyer who represents the down-and-out criminals of Los Angeles.
But constantly fighting for the underdogs has taken a toll on Roman, and he becomes more jaded and discouraged by the day. When he suddenly finds himself laid off by his firm, he reaches a turning point.
