Musicport’s series of 2018 events starts in early March when Bronwynne Brent & her Trio from Mississippi head for the new venue The Hut at Goathland on Saturday 3rd March.
Bronwynne Brent & her Trio are fast becoming a rather special American export, and they will be supported by York trio Stillhouse.
She was recently voted Americana UK’s Top Female Vocalist & her latest album ‘Stardust’ described as “ truly is as an amalgamation of sounds ….with hints of Morricone, a touch of spaghetti western, a sprinkling of country waltzes, and all while tackling subject matters that would not go amiss on a Nick Cave album.”
Another reviewer said “Stardust sounds like a Calexico album, but headed by Portishead’s Beth Gibbons.”
Given that the legendary Calexico’s drummer features maybe that’s not so surprising!
Americana UK describe her vocals as “reminiscent of no one that I can think of, although qualitatively and distinctively they are up there with Joni Mitchell, Buffy Sainte Marie, perhaps even Nina Simone or Billie Holiday and others who are instantly recognizable. She imbues a lovely, hugely dramatic attacking quality to her vocals irrespective of content, ensuring that an intensely dramatic set of songs are never allowed to falter.”
With the success of her previous UK tours and her appearance on Radio 2’s Bob Harris show one can expect a very special night with an artist who is fast becoming a rather special American export.
Jim McLaughlin for Musicport said “The Hut proved itself to be a great venue when, with a capacity crowd, we put on at our first gig in there in November. We hope that this night will draw a similarly large and appreciative crowd for this. We’ll also be announcing a series of other Hut events on the night taking us through until Musicport Festival in October…. support act are the great York trio Stillhouse featuring the dizzying talents Polly Bolton on mandolin….. and, as another incentive as it’s my birthday, so there will be cake”
